Gatlinburg: Arrival Day

August 19

And so we left South Florida on Wednesday to fly to Knoxville where we would pick up our rental car, then drive to the Cabins of Gatlinburg where we would meet our great friends from our Viking Portugal cruise, Tom & Mary Pat.  We had originally planned to have a four bedroom cabin with the other two couples from our "Portugal Posse" .... Dennis & Mary, and Bob & Pam.  But Dennis' brother planned his wedding for this weekend and late in the game Pam's mother fell and they needed to back out.

So we called and transferred to a condo which was only two bedrooms and we invited Keith to join us - he got the upstairs loft and the two couples got the two bedrooms.  There were many issues, most especially that there was no Internet, so we couldn't use the televisions in the bedrooms.  And there were other issues.  So on Friday I called and tried to come up with a new plan.....but more on that later.  The flights went very smoothly, as did picking up the car.  We were booked into an Economy car, but for just $10 a day we were upgraded to a Chrysler 300 luxury model.....nice.  The drive to the condo took a little over an hour (an extra six minutes because Kim had to have coffee and Keith had to have chips....what the!!!!).  Soon after our arrival Tom & M.P. arrived and the vacation began.

M.P. & Tom had driven from their home in northern Kentucky (near Cincinnati) and brought all the necessaries to fix dinner.  After dinner, while having wine we looked over the balcony and there was the "friendly, neighborhood bear" who comes out every evening a little after 7 pm.   Closed the night down with an amazing sunset.  We're off to a good start!

Our Last Day

August 24 Today was a good day.  In the morning we had originally thought we'd go for a hike but after we all got up we just felt...
